The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has mandated all Indian banks to transition their digital banking websites to the exclusive ‘.bank.in’ domain by October 31, 2025, aiming to bolster cybersecurity and enhance public trust in digital banking platforms.

This directive is a proactive measure to combat the escalating threats of online fraud, phishing attacks, and cybercrimes targeting the financial sector. By adopting the ‘.bank.in’ domain, banks can provide a secure and authenticated online environment, making it easier for customers to identify legitimate banking websites. The RBI’s initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the cybersecurity framework within the financial industry, ensuring safer digital transactions and reinforcing consumer confidence.

The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) has been appointed as the exclusive registrar for the ‘.bank.in’ domain. Operating under the authorization of the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), IDRBT will oversee the registration process and provide guidance to banks during the migration.

Banks are encouraged to initiate the transition promptly and can contact IDRBT at sahyog@idrbt.ac.in for assistance with registration and technical support.
